Ghana’s Black Starlets have finished fourth at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship after suffering a 2-0 defeat to hosts Burkina Faso in the third-place play-off.
The loss denied Ghana a podium finish following their 1-0 semi-final defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.
The Black Starlets had enjoyed an impressive group-stage campaign, topping Group A unbeaten with seven points from three matches.
They began with a narrow 1-0 win over Togo before recording a 3-1 victory against Benin and playing out a goalless draw with Burkina Faso.
However, Ghana failed to maintain that momentum in the knockout stage, losing consecutive matches to Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso to end the tournament without a win in their final two outings.
The fourth-place finish marks a disappointing conclusion to the campaign for the young Ghanaians, who had been hoping to secure qualification for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
