Defiance: Catalyst for Change” – Lady Marilyn

Lecturer Warns Against Self-Centred Individuals, Citing Attention-Seeking Behaviour

Lady Marilyn Abeka-Daniels, an adjunct lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication’s Institute of Journalism (UNIMAC-IJ), has said that not all defiant behaviours are wrong, as they sometimes help to bring about change.

In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, Lady Marilyn cited Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Ɔsagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, whose defiance helped to change the status quo and secure independence for the country, which is why people mostly do not question him.

“Although it has negative sides, defiance does not always end badly,” she added.

“Speaking to such people in a civil manner can sometimes effect change,” she disclosed.

Quoting the biblical Esther and her role in fighting for her people, Prophet Ebenezer Dunamis, Head Pastor of Army of God Revival Centre, noted that some defiant individuals directly and boldly resist authority, while others indirectly refuse to follow rules and regulations due to their actions and attitudes.

“Most employers, after their employees’ defiance, target them as an enemy and therefore use any least provocation to punish them, which is not good. On the other hand, when one becomes successful, they become heroic.”
