Ras Mubarak, a former Member of Parliament and a senior member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, over his announcement of a “Thank You Tour” in the Eastern Region.
According to Ras Mubarak, thank-you tours are usually led by candidates, either presidential or parliamentary, who have contested elections in partnership with party executives.
These tours are meant to appreciate party members, executives, and supporters for their hard work during the elections.
He pointed out that in the history of the NDC, no National Chairman has ever gone on a thank-you tour after a party victory.
Ras Mubarak believes that Asiedu Nketiah’s decision to embark on such a tour sets a dangerous precedent and could distract the government from its work.
“This is a dangerous precedent and an unnecessary distraction to the government. Nobody must be allowed to hide under a ‘Thank You Tour’ to advance their premature presidential ambitions. It’s intolerable, and the Chairman must be bluntly told,” Ras Mubarak said in his Facebook post.
He added that the move is an attempt by the National Chairman to position himself for future presidential elections.
Ras Mubarak emphasized that such tours are meant for flagbearers or parliamentary candidates who lead the party into elections, not for party executives.
Many party members are watching the situation closely, as it could create tension within the NDC if not addressed.
Ras Mubarak’s warning reflects concerns about unity and the need to keep party activities focused on collective goals rather than personal ambitions.
As the tour continues, party leaders and members will be observing how it unfolds and whether it respects the traditions of the NDC or encourages individual political ambitions
