Unemployed Teacher Trainees in Ghana Plea for Government Posting Amidst Licensure Expiry Fears

Breaking: Government, Organised Labour agree 15% COLA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A group of unemployed teacher trainees in Ghana is calling on the government to expedite their posting to schools before their licensure exams expire. The Coalition of Unemployed Teacher Trainees, represented by Richard Addo, expressed their frustration on the Ebaanosen show aired on Plan B FM.

The group, comprising hundreds of trained teachers, has completed all required training and licensure exams but remains unemployed nearly two years later. Despite their efforts to seek government intervention through various channels, including social media campaigns and public appeals, their concerns have not been addressed.

The trainees are racing against time, as their licensure exams are valid for only three years. Those who wrote the exams in 2023 face a deadline to secure employment before retaking the exams in 2026. “If we’re not posted before then, we’ll have to write the exams again,” Mr. Addo warned. “That’s another burden—financially and emotionally. We’re pleading with the government to act now.”

The situation highlights the challenges faced by qualified educators in Ghana, who are eager to serve but remain sidelined due to delays in postings. The coalition’s appeal is not just for jobs but also for recognition of their efforts and relief from the uncertainty that threatens their future.
