A 20-year-old boy identified as Yaw has allegedly stabbed his 17-year-old brother, Paa Kwesi, to death at Mampong, a community near Kansaworado within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred after a misunderstanding over a broken padlock.
The suspect, after committing the act, fled the scene and has since not been found.
Narrating the events leading to the murder, the chief linguist of the community, Nana Kwamena Famanyame, explained that the two siblings lived with their mother and stepfather.
According to him, the deceased had gone in search of his phone, which he believed was locked inside his elder brother’s room.
“The phone of the younger one, who is now deceased, was in the room of his elder brother. After many hours of searching for his brother to take his phone without seeing him, he decided to break the padlock to access the room. When the elder sibling returned and realized his junior brother had broken into his room, he became angry, leading to a confrontation. He then pulled a knife and killed his brother instantly,” Nana Famanyame told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show on August 18.
The community has been left in shock following the incident, while police continue efforts to track down the suspect.
The Kwesimintsim District Police Command, with support from the Anaji Police, visited the scene and conveyed the body of the deceased to the mortuary.
The police have since initiated investigations, and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspect.
