The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has destroyed 3.3 tonnes of cocaine, estimated to be worth $350 million, after intercepting the narcotics hidden in a tipper truck travelling from Cape Coast to Accra in March 2025.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the destruction exercise was carried out on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Bundase Military Base.

The operation followed a series of confirmatory tests and was witnessed by the trial judge, state prosecutors, and officials from both the NIB and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

Other confiscated narcotic and pharmaceutical substances seized by NACOC were also destroyed as part of the exercise.

Speaking to the media during the destruction, NACOC Director General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, underscored the Commission’s determination to stamp out drug trafficking and safeguard the future of Ghanaian youth.

“We carried out this operation openly to demonstrate our resolve to end this threat. I urge those engaging in this trade to stop. We won’t allow them to continue importing illicit drugs that ruin lives,” he stated.

He also announced plans to intensify enforcement efforts across the country beginning next month.

“We’re preparing a series of special operations to expose and apprehend drug traffickers. We urge the public and media to support us as we bring these offenders into the spotlight and hold them accountable. This cannot go on in our country,” Brigadier General Mantey noted.
