Parliament to Draft Lifestyle Audit Law Targeting Unexplained Wealth

Speaker Bagbin lifts suspension of 4 MPs

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has revealed plans for Parliament to soon begin drafting a new law aimed at enabling lifestyle audits for individuals suspected of possessing wealth they cannot justify.

Bagbin stated that the forthcoming legislation is a critical step in the nation’s intensified efforts to combat corruption. Once enacted, the law would grant authorities the power to scrutinize the lifestyles of public servants, politically exposed individuals, and private citizens whose living standards do not align with their known income sources.

“I’m actively gathering input to introduce legislation on lifestyle audits. It’s encouraging to see this topic gaining momentum among senior government officials and civil society groups,” Bagbin noted. He highlighted that both the Vice President and the Office of the Special Prosecutor have recently expressed interest in the initiative.

“We will pass this law and put a stop to the blatant display of suspicious wealth that ordinary Ghanaians are forced to witness,” the Speaker affirmed.
