Sacrifice For ‘Dumsor Levy’ Or Face Severe Power Crisis – NDC Communicator

Sacrifice For ‘Dumsor Levy’ Or Face Severe Power Crisis – NDC Communicator

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians, urging them to make sacrifices and pay the recently introduced GH₵1 Energy Sector Levy (Dumsɔ Levy) to avoid a severe power crisis.

According to the NDC, the levy is crucial in ensuring a stable power supply in the country. Failure to pay, they warn, could lead to a significant shortage of power, affecting homes, businesses, and industries.

Vincent Selassie McArdy, NDC Communicator for the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, made this known when he appeared on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show with host Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi. He assured Ghanaians of a prudent usage of the revenue, emphasising that it would be put to good use.

On his part, Selorm Avedetsi, NDC Communicator for Ningo Prampram Constituency, slammed the Akufo-Addo-led administration for recklessly spending all the funds the Mahama administration left behind during 2012-2016. He questioned the whereabouts of any energy fund the previous government had left behind before exiting office in 2024.

“The NPP squandered almost all the funds garnered from initiatives like ESLA and PDS that the Mahama administration left for them,” he stated.

“They seemed unsatisfied, as they spent all the monies from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme whilst squandering ESLA funds. President Mahama left behind $200 million in the Sinking Fund and $150 million in other funds. The NPP should tell us about at least one energy fund they left behind,” he queried.

As the debate rages on, the NDC remains resolute in its stance, emphasising the importance of paying the GH₵1 Energy Sector Levy to prevent a power crisis that could have far-reaching consequences for the economy and citizens’ livelihoods.
