A mobile money vendor was shot and killed by unidentified armed robbers on the evening of Monday, April 28, in Aflao, located in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6:15 p.m., according to Ketu South-based journalist Sylvia Awuye.

She reported that the victim, Christopher Ahordo, popularly known as Colombo, was working later than his usual 5:00 p.m. closing time for reasons that remain unclear.

Witnesses said that just as he was preparing to shut his mobile money shop around 6:15 p.m., two masked men in long robes approached him, armed with pump-action shotguns.

The robbers took a bag believed to contain money, and as they made their escape, one of them shot Colombo in the left side of his chest.

Colombo is reported to have died at the scene. Witnesses stated that they could not assist him right away, as the assailants were firing shots recklessly while fleeing into a nearby bush.

The incident occurred at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao.

Sylvia reported that local residents retrieved the body and transported it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary.

The incident has been reported to the municipal police, who are now conducting an investigation.

Mobile money robberies have become alarmingly frequent in Ghana, claiming the lives of many. Just this year, multiple incidents have been reported in the Ashanti region, with several fatalities
