The Tema Urban Hospital, formerly known as the Tema Polyclinic, has officially commissioned a newly constructed children’s block to enhance healthcare delivery for children in the area. The facility, established with support from NGO Freedog Limited, marks a significant step in the hospital’s rebranding and upgrade from a polyclinic to a full-fledged hospital.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. Lawyer James Enu, presented a cash donation of GH¢2,000 to support the facility’s operations. He praised the efforts of the hospital staff and commended the partnership between the government and NGOs in improving healthcare infrastructure.
Hon. Enu reiterated government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector, assuring attendees that President John Dramani Mahama is prioritizing healthcare as a key national agenda. He stated that policy reforms are underway to address challenges in the sector, including a proposed law to decap the national health levy to generate more funds for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
“One of the main issues we inherited was the lack of funds to pay service providers under the NHIS, which affected healthcare delivery nationwide. This administration is committed to resolving such issues,” he said.
The MP also applauded the dedication of health workers at Tema Urban Hospital, acknowledging their critical role in ensuring quality care for the people of Tema West.
