Stakeholders of School Feeding Program demand higher price increment

Stakeholders of School Feeding Program demand higher price increment
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has hinted at an upward adjustment in the cost per meal for schoolchildren under the School Feeding Programme.

According to him, the cost per meal will increase from GH¢1.50 to GH¢2.00, representing a 33% rise in the feeding fee. The policy was initially introduced under the Mahama-led government.

However, stakeholders of the School Feeding Program have deemed the proposed increment insufficient. They argue that the cost of ingredients has skyrocketed, making it difficult to provide quality meals to students.

Speaking in an interview on Ebaanosen on Plan B FM, Hajia Badatu Iddrissu, the Ashaiman Constituency NDC Women Organizer, urged the government to consider increasing the amount to at least GH¢4.00 or GH¢5.00 to reflect current market prices. She also emphasized the need for timely payments to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

Miss Iddrissu further outlined her expectations for the upcoming budget reading. “I expect an increment in the allocation for the school feeding program, a reduction in fuel prices, and improvements in road construction, among other things,” she said.
