A devastating incident occurred at Akyem Anamase in the Achiase district of the Eastern region, where ten (10) people were severely injured after unidentified men in black t-shirts opened fire during the enthronement ceremony of a new chief, Nana Akwasi Awuah III, and a new queen-mother, Nana Abena Anin-agyaa II.

The horrific incident occurred on Thursday morning, March 6, 2025.

Following the information gathered, some of the casualties were part of a group that was sent from Akyem Swedru, which is the traditional capital town for the Akyem Bosome traditional area, in which the Akyem Anamase chiefs pay allegiance to in order to support the installation of the new chief and his queen-mother

However, they were taken by surprise when the armed men began firing shots.

There were also reports of injuries to some royal family members and Anamase’s new queen mother.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people running for their lives.

The injured individuals were rushed to Akyem Oda Government Hospital for medical attention.

Nana Atta Debrah, the Abusuapanin of Akyem Bosome traditional area, who was among those attacked, urged the youth to refrain from retaliating and instead allow the law to handle the situation.

The newly installed chief, Nana Akwasi Awuah III, was able to pay allegiance despite the bloody incident while his queen mother was hospitalized.

The newly installed chief, Nana Akwasi Awuah III, appealed to his people to unite and focus on community development rather than engaging in conflict.

He emphasized that unity is key to speeding up the development of the community.

Some of his envisioned developmental projects include the Senior High School Project, which aims to improve education in the area, and Community Development Initiatives, which focus on enhancing the overall well-being of community members.

The community remains on edge as authorities investigate the incident.

The police have assured the public that they are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and stability in our communities.
