Masked armed robbers have attacked the Kansaworodo branch of the Total fuel station in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, Monday dawn.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed robbers who were numbering about eight (8) arrived at the fuel station around 1:00am.

They indicate that the pump action wielding robbers asked the attendants to hand over the keys to their safe.

“Fortunately, the keys to the safe was with the manager who was not at the premises at the time of the incident”, Kwaku Adams, an eyewitness indicated.

Sources indicate that the fuel station had closed operations for the day with the attendants sleeping in one of the rooms on the premises when the armed robbers arrived.

In all, about five employees of the Total fuel station, a washing bay attendant and a truck driver were at the station when the robbers attacked.

“One of the fuel attendants who was spending the night at the station woke up around 1:00am to urinate. After a few minutes she went back inside to inform the other colleagues that armed robbers had taken over the place”, he narrated.

Two of the attendants decided to bolt from the scene but could not do so without warning shots from the armed robbers.

“Two of the attendants decided to sneak out of the place but were being chased by two of the armed robbers who were having pump action guns. They fired warning shots, but the two attendants ignored and bolted from the scene. Unfortunately, they searched and found one of the attendants hiding behind a parked vehicle. She started pleading with them to spare her life, they assured her that she was not their target”, he added.

A taxi driver who was driving pass the scene and was suspected to have seen the operation is said to have been shot by the robbers.

“They tied one person believed to be a driver who had parked his vehicle at the station’s premises and hit one other attendant with pinch bar. They also shot a taxi driver who was passing by at the time and damaged his windscreen, he sustained minor injuries. They took our phones after realizing they were not getting the money. After spending about 20 minutes, their unregistered minibus vehicle pulled up and they all left”, he added.

Some officials of the Fuel station have confirmed the incident and indicated the Kwesiminstim Police has begun investigations. They however declined to comment further.
