Sports journalist Bernard Mensah has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) not to rush in resuming football activities following the death of staunch Asante Kotoko fan, Nana Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
He believes that proper safety measures must be put in place to ensure the security of fans and stakeholders at various stadiums before football resumes in the country.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s ‘Kawadwen’ sports show, hosted by Dan K. Pobi Okocha, Kwamens argued that the time has come for football gatekeepers, club owners, fans, and all stakeholders to take responsibility for the development of football in Ghana.
“I think the FA shouldn’t rush to resume football in the country just to meet a certain calendar. We need to take security matters seriously. Football authorities must come up with a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of fans and officials at stadiums. We cannot continue to experience hooliganism in the country and pretend as if nothing has happened,” he said.
Calls for reforms in Ghanaian football have intensified following the killing of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley. He was fatally stabbed outside the Nana Koronamansah II Park during a heated Ghana Premier League clash between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko in Twumasikrom, near Nsoatre.
