The heart-breaking demise of a four-year-old boy has thrown the Berekum-Amangoase neighbourhood into a state of grief and shock.

Only known as Nana, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered from residents that the boy allegedly slipped into an abandoned water pit near the family house and drowned in the process.

The incident which happened Tuesday, February 11, 2025, around 2000 hours remained the topic of discussion in the area, as many residents said they wondered about the whereabouts of the deceased parents at that hour.

During a visit to the neighbourhood on Wednesday, several mourners had thronged the family house to sympathise, as the parents wept uncontrollably.

In an interview with the GNA, Kwaku Ronney, the Assemblyman for the Amangoase Electoral Area in the Berekum Municipality said the police were informed and they had since retrieved the body from the pit and deposited it at a mortuary.

Some of the residents also told the GNA the pit was close to a field where many of the children in the area went to play and called on the Berekum Municipal Assembly to close it.
