12% of men are affected by breast cancer, Let’s promote regular check-ups for all – Breast Cancer Advocate

Debunking the myth that breast cancer only affects women, Mrs. Justina Kyei Suapim, a breast cancer advocate from Tema Urban Hospital, revealed that approximately 12% of males are also victims of breast cancer.

In an interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, Mrs. Suapim emphasized that breast cancer is not exclusive to females. She noted that while breast cancer has been present since ancient times, it’s crucial to raise awareness about the importance of regular check-ups, especially during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mrs. Suapim identified several risk factors contributing to breast cancer, including: external environmental factors: aging, gender, family history, damaged genes, reproductive factors, certain family planning methods, and hereditary factors.

However, she stressed that breast cancer is preventable by: maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding chemicals in food processing, limiting excessive drug use and smoking, timely childbearing, and regular check-ups.

Mrs. Suapim’s message aims to educate the public about the importance of breast cancer awareness and prevention, emphasizing that early detection and healthy lifestyle choices can make a significant difference.
