We won’t allow NPP to share drought relief funds among themselves – Mahama

The Akuffo Addo led Government Are Specialized In Abandoning Projects – John Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has his party will not tolerate any diversion of funds intended for drought victims in Northern Ghana by the government.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Ayorya, Kintampo South District of the Bono Region, Mr. Mahama declared that his party will not tolerate any diversion of funds meant to assist affected farmers to individuals aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The government has requested GHS 500 million from the contingency fund to aid drought-stricken farmers, pending parliamentary approval. Mahama raised concerns that the NPP might misuse these funds, comparing the situation to the alleged mishandling of COVID-19 relief resources.

“The NPP has made things difficult and because of their bad luck, it didn’t rain this year. As we speak, Parliament is yet to approve compensation for the drought victims. We won’t allow them to share the funds among themselves like they did with the COVID funds,” Mr. Mahama stated.

He called for a fair and impartial distribution of the relief funds, urging that local chiefs be involved in the process to ensure transparency and accountability.

“The support must reach the intended beneficiaries, and we’ll be watching closely. The chiefs must be allowed to be part of the distribution process,” he added.
