Arsenal have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Italian international Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
The deal, worth up to £42 million, sees the 22-year-old pen a five-year contract with the Gunners.
Calafiori, who impressed at Euro 2024, is versatile enough to play as a central defender or left-back.
He enjoyed a standout season with Bologna, contributing significantly to their Champions League qualification.
“I’m really happy to be here,” said Calafiori. “I waited a lot.
“I hope we are going to do something great this season.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight at securing Calafiori’s signature, highlighting the defender’s character and ability to strengthen the team’s push for major trophies.
Arteta described Calafiori as a “great signing”.
“Riccardo is a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger as we push to win major trophies,” he added.
“He has already shown great development in recent seasons with his performances for both Bologna and Italy, with his progression and development in the past year being really impressive.
“We’re looking forward to working with Riccardo, integrating him into the squad, and supporting him in the years to come.”
