Data price hikes: MTN must have been charged so much If we are a serious country – NPP Communicator

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has responded to growing public concerns about high internet data prices and its recent designation of MTN as a Significant Market Power (SMP).

In a statement released on Sunday, 21 July 2024, the NCA sought to clarify its position and the implications of the SMP classification.

According to the NCA, designating MTN as an SMP is in line with its mission and regulatory mandate.

The NCA reassured the public that the SMP status aims to foster a level playing field and safeguard consumer choice.

Reacting to this in a panel discussion on Plan B Fm’s ‘Nkosuonsem’ show hosted by Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi on Tuesday, 23 July 2024, a Communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Tema Central Constituency, Mr. Richard Aning said that, MTN is trying to downplay with the mindsets of Ghanaians.

“MTN must have been charged so much if Ghana is a serious country. The company is in a strategical way trying to downplay with the mindsets of Ghanaians” he noted.
