In a statement dated July 18,2024, by Road Transport Operators, it indicated that, it has come to their notice that a group calling itself Transport Operators Association has announced their intention to increase public transport fares by 15% effective Monday July 22.
According to them, their actions are a result of the recent 2.5% increment in fuel prices in the second pricing window of July 2024.
“We wish to inform the general public that there has not been any decision taken to increase transport fares as being speculated about. Though we recognize that there has been some marginal increase in the price of petroleum products, we will continue to engage with stakeholders to give consideration to the various inputs into our operations “.
In an interview on Plan B Fm’s ‘Ebaanosen’ show hosted by Ohene Kinnah on Friday July 19 2024, the National Public Relations Officer for Alliance of Drivers Ghana, Mr. Kwaku Boateng said that transport fares remain the same.
“Transport fares remain the same, there has not been any decision taken to increase transport fares despite the recent surge in petroleum products in July second pricing window” he stated.
Transport Operators should be very careful for adjusting their transport fares without any decision taken and also advised passengers not to fight drivers charging more than it due to Police” he added.
