GPL: Hearts of Oak survive relegation as Olympics get relegated

GPL: Hearts of Oak survive relegation as Olympics get relegated

Hearts of Oak retained their top-flight status in the Ghana Premier League after earning a crucial win over Bechem United.

Ahead of the final day of the competition, the Phobians lay precariously on the table with 42 points in 15th place. That was just above the single available slot in the relegation zone. Great Olympics were 16th on the table occupying that dangerous slot.

Hearts of Oak in their pivotal game against Bechem United saw them go behind in the 29th minute when Emmanuel Owusu put the Hunters in front. With a spirited effort from the visitors at the Nana Fosu Gyeablour Park, the Phobians equalised through Kofi Agbesimah three minutes later but Bismark Edjeodji netted again to restore the lead after the break.

The relief moment however arrived for Hearts of Oak when Kevin Osei Assibey and Yaw Baafi scored in the space of four minutes to seal the win for the Phobians.

This lifted them above to 13th place on the table firmly securing an escape despite the fears.
