Former Hearts of Oak Skipper, Yam Amankwah Mireku has called club administrators in the Ghana Premier League to prioritize the well-being of their players to keep them in the local league for long.
The 40-year-old who played for the Black Stars between 2001-2005, asserted that, player exodus in our local football can be stopped if authorities ensure lucrative payment plan for players in order to keep them on the domestic scene. The issue of mass player exodus has led to the loss of numerous number of talents as a result of poor remuneration given to the players.
In an interview with Tema Cmmuninity 2 based radio station, Plan B FM, the former defender believed it was about time club owners respect players and honor their contractual obligation they sign with them and their representatives.
“it is only in Ghana and Africa that a player is not allowed to bring his legal team on board when signing a contract with a club. I don’t understand why, but to me it’s unprofessional”, he said.
The Confederations Cup and Champions League winner also advised players not to rest on their oars as a result of the cancellation of the 2019/20 league season following the outbreak of Covid-19, but they should train hard to stay fit.
“As a footballer, you have to continue training hard whether there is competitive football or not, it is your responsibility to stay fit, train on your own all the time to maintain your form”, he added.
