The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Ho, is investigating a suspected case of suicide that took place at Agortime-Kpetoe, in the residence of the District Police Commander.

The lifeless body of Billy Bless, said to be a boyfriend of the District Police Commander, was found dangling from the ceiling fan in the bedroom on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

The Chronicle understands that at the time the incident happened, the police officer (name withheld) was allegedly attending to her ailing mother in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

Information gathered by The Chronicle from very reliable sources in the service, revealed that the two have been in a relationship for about six years, without the deceased making any effort towards marriage.

Billy, the son of the respected late Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabasu, moves from Tema to visit his fiance regularly. But lately, the Commander detected that her man, unknown to her, was into another relationship, so she asked that they go their separate ways.

The Chronicle further heard that in order to properly attend to her sick mum, she relocated and commutes from Ho to her command post at Agortime-Kpetoe (26km), the capital of Kpetoe-Ziope District.

Report has it that on Tuesday, last week, the deceased visited the ailing would-be mother-in-law and went to request for the keys to the official residence of the police boss, from a service driver who has spare keys.

As the intimacy between the duo is known to all the police officers, the driver also obliged.
On Wednesday, October 25, 2023 the lights in the house were still on and the driver presumed that his boss was in, so he did not bother to go to the house.

When the following day, Thursday, October 26, 2023 the lights were off and no sign of the keys had been returned to him by the deceased, he called to inform the District Police Commander, who made him to proceed to Ho for the spare keys.

At the residence, he opened the door leading to the living room without any hindrance, but same could not be said of the door to the bedroom.

He again placed a call to the District Police Commander who instructed him to fetch a carpenter to assist open the door. When the door was forced open, he saw the lifeless body of Billy Bless, dangling on a rope from the ceiling fan.

He retreated and informed the Volta Regional Police Commander, who dispatched a squad of Crime Scene Management Team to the scene.

In the morning of Friday October 27, 2023 the Regional Crime Officer, personally led a team of detectives, to commence preliminary investigation at the scene, whilst the body was removed to the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho for autopsy, pending further enquiries.

The deceased was said to be working with an oil company in Tema.
