A political analyst who doubles as a financial engineer Mr. Alex Emmanuel Nti has stated that the vice president Dr. Bawumia, the head of Ghana’s economic team is a talking economist instead of being practical in fixing the current economic hardship.
Speaking on Plan B FM late afternoon show EBAANOSEN hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Nti stressed that all the predicaments of Nana Addo’s government should be blamed on Dr. Bawumia especially the economy because President Akufo Addo trusted Dr. Bawumia as an economist that was why he appointment him to lead the economic team but all his actions have been theories and talking which is not reflecting on the economy.
“In 2016 Dr. Bawumia set 170 questions to be answered by the late former vice president Amissah Arthur during the NDC’s era which Dr. Bawumia has refused the answer those questions.”
His comments was in reaction to Prof. Adei’s 14 months given to Nana Addo to redeem himself before the 2024 general election, political analysis Mr. Nti believes that 14 months will be too late but has from now to June 2024 next year to redeem himself anything after June 2024 next year will not have any impact on his governance and if the NPP wants to break the 8 they have from now to June 2024 to redeem themselves, he added.
“Nana Addo will be remembered for the economic hardships and corruption his government has put Ghanaians through because he raised the hope of the citizens in the fight against corruption but he has been defeated, he added.
The former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Professor Stephen Adei says the country requires a leader who is trustworthy and selfless to take Ghana out of the current economic predicament in a short time, something President Akufo-Addo lacks.
According to him, the President raised the expectations of Ghanaians before his election into office and ended up dumping them when much was expected of him.
He says the President wielded the aura of hope, charisma, vision, and determination many felt would have guided him to salvage the country from its problems. However, things have turned out to be rather worse with his appointees wallowing in corruption.
“One of the greatest disappointments of Nana Akufo-Addo’s regime is that, honestly, he raised the hope of Ghanaians. Ghanaians expected that they had gotten the leader with vision, charisma, and determination, and it seems if he doesn’t redeem himself in the next 14 months, he will go down in history as one of the most disappointing leaders,” the Professor indicated.
He bemoaned the sheer arrogance that has characterized the President’s appointees.
“…The corruption, the arrogance, they think that Ghana is for them and that without them Ghana will not be there and some of them thinking that they should tell us who should be our next president,” he berated.
The President has come under many criticisms regarding the state of Ghana’s economy some economists have projected a true recovery in the next 30 years, all other things being equal.
The inflation rate has risen sharply to a record 54 percent until a recent decline stemming from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) bailout which granted the first tranche of the US$ 3 billion a few months ago.
The President who appears to have lost control over recent affairs is only casting his hopes on who the next leader becomes, per a response he gave to journalists on his way to vote in the super delegates’ conference of the NPP in August 2023.
“It’s difficult, I’m the first to admit it. I have said it several times, but at the end of the day I believe when the moment comes, Ghanaians will reflect on who best can get us out of this difficulty,” Akufo-Addo had said.
