Don’t make yourselves so “cheap”, fight for 50% salary increment – Educationist to Teachers

Don’t make yourselves so “cheap”, fight for 50% salary increment – Educationist to Teachers

An educationist who doubles as a counselor,  Mr Daniel Fenyi has asked the teacher unions to fight for a 50% salary increment and stop making themselves so “cheap” and demand for what they deserve.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s late afternoon show EBAANOSEN, Mr. Fenyi told Ohene Kinnah that, teachers are right to voice out their grievances if they think the conditions of service are not helping their work.

He said, their reasons for boycotting this year’s teachers day celebration is not enough.

“I think they have more pressing issues than what they are demanding for. They should demand for 20% allowance because teacher are the backbone of every country in terms of its literacy development”

“I agree with the frustration they are going through but i also disagree with their reasons to boycott the celebration” he added

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-GH) have warned that they will not partake in this year’s national celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

This according to them is due to unresolved issues with the Education Ministry.

In a statement issued on September 18, the three teacher unions called out the Ministry for failing to pay a 20% allowance promised to teachers posted to underserved areas.

The three groups also demanded a refund of GHc 44.55 to teachers from the Education Ministry as instructed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The unions have given the Education Ministry a two-week ultimatum to fulfill these demands.
