Real Madrid have won their 20th Copa del Reytitle after two goals from Rodrygo saw Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a 2-1 victory over Osasunain the 2023 final.
The 22-year-old forward scored a goal in either half at Estadio La Cartuja to secure Real’s first Copa del Rey triumph since 2014.
The fixture marked just the second time Osasuna had reached the Copa del Rey final, with the club’s only previous appearance coming in 2005.
Real were ahead inside two minutes thanks to Rodrygo’s close-range finish before Lucas Torro levelled proceedings on 58 minutes with a low strike from the edge of the area.
Rodrygo scored his and Real’s second of the night with another close-range finish with 20 minutes remaining after Toni Kroos’ deflected shot fell kindly into his path to secure a hard-fought victory for his side.
The win also marked a second triumph in the competition for Carlo Ancelotti, having guided Real to Copa del Rey success in 2014 — his first major trophy at the club.
Real sit 14 points behind rivals Barcelona in La Liga with five league matches remaining of the 2022-23 campaign. However, Ancelotti’s side remain in contention to defend their Champions League title and have been drawn against Manchester City in the semi-finals.
In addition to their Copa del Rey triumph, the reigning European champions have already lifted the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this season.
Real return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Manchester City to the Bernabeu in the first leg of their semi-final tie.
