Ghana 2023: LOC To Outdoor Logo, Mascot And Website On December 16

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 13th African Games is set to outdoor the Games’ logo, website and official mascot on Thursday, December 13, 2021 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

After the signing of the Protocol Agreement between Ghana and the African Union (AU), the LOC, headed by Mr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, could now officially kick start activities earmarked for the Games.

Some Ghanaians have expressed their displeasure on the slow pace of the LOC in getting Ghana ready for the Games but the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the LOC, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, explained that the LOC could not do anything official because the agreement had not been signed.

He assured that the LOC together with the Government of Ghana are poised to make the Games in Ghana to be counted among the countries that have hosted the Games.

Dr. Owusu Ansah explained that Ghana has made a few changes in the Games to suit the traditional and cultural values of the country therefore the medals to be given out would be different from the usual medals.

He added that the Ghana Games would be used as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games therefore every facility that is put up would be of the accepted Olympic Standard.

If hosted, Ghana would join the likes of Congo Brazzaville, Mali, Nigeria, Algeria, Kenya, Egypt, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Morocco as countries on the continent that has hosted the Africa Games which was previously known as the All African Games.
