The Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA) and the Nigeria Union of Traders’ Association, Ghana (NUTAG) have been requested by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to stop from additional press releases, store closures, and other activities related to the two parties’ conflict.
The parties have been advised to follow this directive until the next meeting of the Joint Taskforce, which will be co-chaired by a senior representative from the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC) and a representation from the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.
This comes after three Joint Taskforce meetings in a row failed to bring the subject to a conclusion.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of trade it read, “The Joint Taskforce, which was co-chaired by a senior representative of the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC) and a representative of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, met three times, the first on August 10th, the second on August 13th, and the third on August 315th, 2021″
The sessions were inconclusive, resulting in public statements from both GUTA and NUTAG about disputes between the two sides in the implementation of the agreed framework of engagement for Nigerian nationals participating in retail trade in Ghana.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the leadership of both GUTA and NUTAG has been urged to restrain their members until the next meeting to resolve the stalemate is held.
