Legon Hospital suspends OPD, specialist services over GAUA strike

University Of Ghana Re-Introduces ‘No Mask, No Entry’ As COVID-19 Cases Surge
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The University Hospital, Legon has suspended its General Outpatient, Specialist Clinics and Pharmacy counselling services amid the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, the hospital said the affected services will be suspended from today Thursday, August 13, 2026, until further notice.

The hospital attributed the decision to the ongoing GAUA strike, which has disrupted administrative operations at public universities.

The Emergency Department, however, remains operational and will continue to attend to patients requiring emergency medical care.

GAUA embarked on the industrial action over concerns regarding the implementation of its conditions of service and outstanding issues affecting the welfare of university administrators.

The association has been pressing for the resolution of issues it says have remained outstanding despite engagements with the relevant authorities.

The strike has affected administrative activities across public universities, with institutions taking measures to manage the impact on their operations.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is expected to meet with representatives of GAUA this week as part of efforts to resolve the issues underpinning the industrial action.
