The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) will from next month roll out the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign nationwide to reduce the upsurge of road crashes in the country.
Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Ebaanosen’ with Bohyeba Afriyie, Public Relations Officer of the Authority, Pearl Adusu Gyasi said it has become necessary following the successful piloting of the initiative in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and other parts of the country during the electioneering period in December last year.
According to her, the “Arrive Alive Campaign” is one of the many campaigns being initiated to mitigate the occurrence of road crashes and its brutalities in Ghana.
“Our core mandate is to educate the public on the rules and regulations on the road. Our research over the years has shown that over speeding, drowsy driving, wrongful overtaking, destructive driving, inattentiveness, not wearing seatbelt are the most common causes of road accidents in the country. Road traffic crashes and its resultant fatalities and injuries are no respecter of persons, thus the launch of this campaign to educate drivers and passengers,” she stated.
She added that the campaign therefore seeks to influence positive behavioral change among the driving public and compliance with road traffic regulations. She therefore encouraged the media to support the Authority with this initiative to instill discipline on our roads and make policymakers accountable.
“We have the full support of the media and also various transport entities. ‘Arrive-Alive’ road safety campaign is to influence the required positive change among drivers and passengers. I am without doubt that the media is to give a massive road safety campaign on all their various platforms.” She intimated
In conclusion, Pearl Gyasi noted that the NRSA, as part of the campaign, has developed the ‘Arrive Alive’ App, an electronic application to be deployed on mobile phones to enable the public report road safety-related incidents on the road.
