20 Fire Outbreaks Recorded In 2021 So Far, Fire Service Reveals

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Tema District has revealed that as of January 15, the country has recorded 20 fire outbreaks since the year begun.

Fire Officers DO2 Nancy Amakah, ADO2 George Afare and ASO Charles Andrews Eshun made the revelation in an interview with Plan B FM morning show dubbed Nkosuo Nsem on Friday Janaury 15, 2021.

The Fire officers indicated that the main causes of all the recent fire outbreaks in the country especially in our markets are caused by negligence, faulty electrical appliances and people not adhering to the basic fire safety measures that the Fire Service have announced over the years.

“The recent fire outbreaks is nobody’s fault, it is caused by our own negligence and not adhering to the basic fire safety measures that we have put in place over the years.”

“Activities such as cooking in the markets also causes fire, I will urge our market women to remember to put out the fire after cooking in the markets.”

“Proper segregation of markets will help avoid fire outbreaks. Most of the markets in the country are not well-planned and no proper layouts so they are always congested. Anytime fire breaks out in the market it becomes very difficult for fire tenders to get access to douse the outbreak”, the officers stressed.
