The Accra Circuit Court has remanded Kojo Senagbe, 52, into police custody. He is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Oliver Zinto, a 62-year-old ex-service Togolese national. The court is presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah. Senagbe faces a charge of unlawful harm under Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He pleaded not guilty when the case was called on May 21, 2025. The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2025.

Incident Details

Chief Inspector Belinda Asante leads the prosecution in this case. The violent incident occurred on May 10, 2025, around 10:30 p.m. It took place at Community 14 Annex in Lashibi, Greater Accra Region. Both men live in the same neighborhood.

Mr. Zinto was walking home when Senagbe allegedly ordered him to stop. Sensing danger, Zinto ignored the command and kept walking. Senagbe then attacked him with a machete, causing multiple wounds on his scalp and body.

Despite his injuries, Mr. Zinto managed to disarm Senagbe during their struggle. Bystanders rushed to help him as Senagbe fled the scene.

Zinto received first aid and later got a medical form from Klagon Police for hospital treatment. He lodged a formal complaint at the station afterward.

Senagbe was arrested two days later on May 12, 2025. In his caution statement with an independent witness present, he admitted to the attack. He claimed jealousy motivated his actions because he accused Zinto of taking over his girlfriend.

Investigators later found the machete used in the assault. Following this evidence, Senagbe was charged and brought before the court.

Court Proceedings

During his court appearance, Senagbe denied all charges against him. The prosecution presented its initial facts about the case. Considering the seriousness of the offense, the court ordered that he be remanded in custody.

The case will resume on June 18, 2025 as investigations continue and prosecution prepares its evidence.
