Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital also known as Ridge Hospital has condemned an act of violence against a security officer at the facility, confirming that the 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to a statement issued by the hospital on Friday, February 20, 2026, the incident occurred on February 18, 2026, at the Labour Ward.

“The Security guard, who was on duty at the Labour Ward, was assaulted by an 18-year-old male, Gabriel Dimson, who had accompanied his mother and a friend to the Hospital.

The suspect was directed by the security officer to move to the reception area, as it was unauthorized for visitors to stand at the entrance of the ward outside approved visiting hours”, it noted.

It said the suspect refused to comply with the directive and proceeded to push the officer to the ground and physically assaulted him.

“The officer fell unconscious and was immediately attended to by doctors on duty. He remains on admission and is responding to treatment”, the statement said.

The hospital stated that the incident was reported at the Adabraka District Police Command.

“The suspect has been arrested, and the police are assisting with investigations and subsequent prosecution”, it indicated.

Management of the hospital noted that violence against staff would not be tolerated.

“Management wishes to state unequivocally that we will not condone any form of violence against our staff. Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing Hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers”, the statement said.

It further urged the public to cooperate with hospital staff and adhere to established protocols, particularly visiting hours, to maintain a safe environment for all.

“We urge the public to cooperate with Hospital staff and comply with established guidelines, including visiting protocols, to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment,” it added.
