World Cup 2026: Tuchel wary of Ghana threat ahead of crunch England clash

England coach Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged the quality and strength of the Black Stars ahead of his side’s crucial Group L encounter against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions will face Ghana in one of the standout fixtures of the group stage after both teams made winning starts to the tournament. England defeated Croatia 4-2 in a thrilling opener, while Ghana edged Panama 1-0 thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi’s decisive goal.

Speaking before the highly anticipated showdown in Boston, Tuchel described Ghana as one of the toughest teams in the group and praised the Black Stars for their physical and tactical qualities.

“We are playing in one of the most difficult groups, and Ghana is a traditional top football country with outstanding players,” Tuchel said.

“Ghana play with a lot of physicality, quality and speed. They don’t mind if they don’t have the ball.”

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich trainer has fired a stern warning to the Black Stars, stressing the Three Lions will be motivated to face Ghana.

“It’s bad news for Ghana because we will be very motivated,” he added.

The clash between Ghana and England is expected to attract huge global attention, with both nations aiming to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage.

A victory for either side would place them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage, making Monday’s showdown one of the most anticipated matches of the group phase.

England sit top of Group L with three points, followed by Ghana, who are also on three points but trail the Three Lions on goal difference.
