A woman has allegedly set her sister’s house on fire in Tamale following a reported family dispute, causing panic among residents on Yong Street in the Kpanvo area of the Northern Region of Ghana.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fire broke out suddenly, with flames seen coming from the windows of the house as frightened residents rushed to the scene in an attempt to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

One eyewitness said he quickly noticed smoke and flames emerging from the property and immediately switched off the electricity supply to avoid a possible electrical explosion or further damage.

The witness further explained that he alerted an elderly woman believed to have been inside the house at the time of the incident, helping to ensure her safety as the fire intensified.

According to residents gathered at the scene, a young woman who was allegedly present during the incident reportedly admitted to starting the fire and calmly told bystanders “not to worry,” shocking many people nearby.

The elderly woman, believed to be the mother of both the suspect and the homeowner, reportedly collapsed after confirming what had happened. Residents say the emotional distress from the incident overwhelmed her as the reality of the family conflict unfolded publicly.

The incident has left many residents in the Kpanvo area stunned, with some describing the situation as deeply disturbing given the apparent family connection between those involved.

Community members say disputes within families should never escalate into acts of violence or destruction, especially incidents that endanger lives and property.

Although the full extent of the damage has not yet been officially disclosed, residents say parts of the house were badly affected by the fire before efforts were made to contain it.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the alleged confession made at the scene and the possible motive behind the act. Meanwhile, residents are calling for calm and urging families to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes before situations spiral into tragedy.
