All male final-year students of Bolgatanga Technical Institute sent home

All male final-year students of Bolgatanga Technical Institute sent home

Authorities at the Bolgatanga Technical Institute in the Upper East Region of Ghana have sent home all male final-year students following concerns that they were planning to attack school infrastructure.

The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent any damage to school property. School authorities said they received credible information suggesting that the students were organizing to carry out destructive acts on campus before their departure from the institution.

This is not the first time Ghanaian technical and senior high schools have faced such situations. In many cases, outgoing final-year students have vandalized school property, damaged furniture, defaced walls, and destroyed equipment — actions that have cost schools significant resources to repair.

Rather than wait for the situation to escalate, management of Bolgatanga Technical Institute chose to act swiftly by directing the affected students to vacate the premises. The move was intended to protect the school’s facilities and maintain order on campus.

While some may argue that the decision punishes all students for the alleged intentions of a few, school authorities appeared to prioritize the safety of property and the learning environment for remaining students.

It is worth noting that final examinations are approaching for many senior high and technical school students across Ghana. Situations like this not only disrupt the academic calendar but also put the futures of the involved students at risk.

School authorities, parents, and education stakeholders are encouraged to work together to address the culture of property destruction that has persisted in some Ghanaian schools. Students nearing graduation should be guided to leave their institutions with dignity, not destruction.
