A man believed to be in his late 40s narrowly escaped death at Roman Down, a suburb of Ashaiman, after he reportedly confronted two suspected thieves on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m., according to eyewitness accounts shared on Plan B FM’s Ebanosen programme.
Michael Teye, who witnessed the aftermath, described the ordeal as disturbing. He explained that the victim was on his way to purchase local gin from a nearby shop when he allegedly spotted two men stealing chickens. The man reportedly blew a whistle to draw attention to the suspected theft.
Moments later, the suspects are said to have followed him to his residence. While the victim was asleep, the two men allegedly attacked him, attempting to strangle him with a rope.
His screams for help drew the attention of neighbours, who rushed to the scene and intervened, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.
The case has been reported to the Ghana Police Service, with officers at the Ashaiman District Command expected to investigate the attempted assault.
Residents say the incident highlights growing concerns about petty theft and retaliation attacks in parts of the municipality, calling for increased police visibility in the area.
