A group calling itself Ada Songor Lagoon Association (ASLA), is calling on authorities to come to their aid on atrocities that are being committed against them on their land by agents of Daniel McKorley popularly known as McDan and the security agencies.
Speaking to Mr. Abraham Ahoma Karim, PRO who doubles as the organizer for ASLA on Plan B Fm late afternoon show EBAANOSEN with Ohene Kinnah, he said, they will fearlessly and forcefully fight for their rights as guaranteed by the country’s constitution by all legitimate means at their disposal.
The association also appealed to the government and especially the minerals commission as a matter of urgency to revoked the mining lease from Electrochem because the rate of toxic pollution and attacks on the citizenry is unlawful.
On the same issue, Asafoatse Nwaa Kotoko Debrah a sub-chief and a member of the Ada Traditional Council has also refuted the allegations by (ASLA), that the chiefs and elders in Ada Traditional Council are not in support of those who are against MCDan, because they wanted an investor to give a facelift to the lagoon so they don’t recognize (ASLA).
“The lagoon must be given a facelift and MCDan is gradually doing that, he has done a lot for Ada, he has built KVIPs for most communities in Ada, and they are supplying drinkable water to every community that lacks drinking water”, he said.
He said the lagoon was leased to MCDan for 15 years to legally mine salt and after these years elapsed, we believe there will be a facelift after MCDan’s leasing time expires, he explained.
