“We Are Suffering From Insecurity And Poor Sanitation” – Barekese Zongo Community Cry To Gov’t

The Residents of Barekese Zongo in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency of the Ashanti Region are appealing to the government, their Member of Parliament (MP), Hon Benito Owusu Bio, their District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon Rebecca Yeboah, other Executives and other stakeholders to come to their aid immediately resolve challenges of insecurity, poor sanitation and other problems in their Community.

According to the residents, the increasing number of robbery cases in the area couple with other crime related cases have always put fear in them with some of them said to be contemplating relocating from the area.

They mentioned that some miscreants who always hide in dark places during night, attack them and have succeeded in robbing them off their valuables like motorbike, cars, tricycles (aboboyaa), mobile phones as well as some of their animals like cattle, goats and sheeps.

Lamenting about their challenges, some of the residents noted that they have been advised against taking the law into their hands otherwise they would lynched anyone caught stealing or robbing any of them in the area. They further explained that the number of crime related cases in the area keeps going up by the day and added that if nothing was done about it the situation would get to a point where they may not be able to deal with the situation.

On sanitation, they bemoaned the lack of site for proper disposing off waste in the area and explained that such situation was affecting the health of the people. They have therefore called on the district assembly of the area to a matter of urgency come to their aid by providing them with areas where waste could dumped. They were quick to add that the collection of these waste should also be looked at so that the waste does not lie there for a longer period of time.

Taking his turn to speak to the challenges his people face, the Zongo Chief at Barekese who is also Atwima Nwabiagya Council of Zongo Chiefs Chairman, Chief Issaka Amadu Ramadan Il warned criminals in the community to desist from committing crimes adding that such culprits when arrested would be severely punished. He continued that he together with his elders are committed to ensuring that peace is restored in the area.
