Two VIP Jeoun buses were attacked by armed robbers in separate incidents on Thursday night and the early hours of Friday, leaving several passengers injured in one of the attacks.

In a statement issued on July 31, 2026, the transport company said the first incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on the Accra-Kumasi Highway between Apedwa Junction and Akyem Asafo, via Nkronso and Akooko.

According to the company, armed robbers blocked the highway using a vehicle, trapping three coaches. One of the buses, which was travelling from Accra to Sunyani, came under heavy gunfire, with the driver, mate and three passengers sustaining injuries.

The injured driver has since been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Police officers from Suhum reportedly responded swiftly, repelled the attackers, cleared the obstruction and reopened the highway to traffic.

The second attack occurred at about 1:00 a.m. near Patrikrom on the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway. The robbers opened fire on another VIP Jeoun coach, damaging its windscreen.

However, an armed escort accompanying the bus successfully repelled the attackers before they could harm any passengers. A police patrol team later arrived at the scene to support the response.

VIP Jeoun Management reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of passengers and crew, assuring the travelling public that it will continue to work with the security agencies to ensure safe and hassle-free transportation.
