Two Nigerian nationals have been remanded into lawful custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly conspiring to cause harm to a compatriot following a dispute over a loan transaction.

The accused persons, Ese Popo and Marvellous Akpos, pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime, namely causing harm, and causing harm, contrary to sections 23(1) and 69 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).They were arraigned before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit, while Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko led the prosecution.

According to the brief facts presented to the court, the complainant, Smart Precious Hycient, a resident of Spintex, had in September 2024 granted a loan of ₦10 million (Ten Million Naira) to the first accused, Ese Popo, who offered his Mercedes Benz GLC and relevant documents as collateral.

After partially repaying the loan, Popo reportedly received his vehicle back while arrangements were ongoing to settle the remaining amount.

However, the prosecution said relations between the two soured when Popo allegedly began tarnishing the complainant’s reputation among mutual friends and on social media.

On September 17, 2025, the complainant encountered Popo at a pharmacy in Spintex and confronted him about his alleged conduct. The confrontation became heated, prompting the complainant to walk away and return home.

In the early hours of September 18, 2025, at about 1:00 a.m., the accused persons, together with others currently at large, allegedly stormed the complainant’s residence and attacked him, inflicting a deep wound on his back. After the assault, the suspects fled the scene.

The injured complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment and later reported the matter to the police.

Both accused were subsequently arrested on September 24, 2025, and during interrogation, Marvellous Akpos allegedly admitted his involvement in the attack.

The court remanded the two accused persons into lawful custody to assist with ongoing police investigations.
