Two people have died following a fatal road traffic collision at Asuboi on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 9:01 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026. A six-member rescue team, led by Station Officer I Antwi Forson, arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of dispatch.
The crash involved a Hyundai truck with registration number GX 7359-14 and a KIA Rhino truck with registration number GX 857-16. Firefighters found several occupants trapped in the wreckage and used extrication equipment to rescue them before handing the victims over to the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Ambulance Service for transportation to the Suhum Government Hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the KIA Rhino, which was travelling from the Upper West Region to Accra, suffered a front tyre burst. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the Hyundai truck.
Four people were involved in the accident, with two confirmed dead and two others sustaining injuries.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The Hyundai truck’s front section was severely damaged, while the KIA Rhino’s front end and one of its tyres were completely destroyed.
Personnel from the Suhum Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ayensuano District Ambulance Service also responded to the incident. Firefighters completed rescue operations and left the scene at 10:07 a.m., returning to the station eight minutes later.
