Two feared dead, others injured as residents clash with police in Kwawu Bepong

Two people are feared dead and several others injured after angry youth clashed with police at Kwawu Bepong in the Eastern region.

According to reports the youth were demanding the release of Kwesi Tenkorang, suspected to have raped and killed a young lady and her sister in the town.

After committing the heinous crime, the suspect fled the scene.

Residents mounted a search and apprehended him at his hideout. They wanted to lynch him but others advised the suspect be sent to the chief’s palace.

The chief of Kwawu Bepong was keeping the suspect in his palace awaiting police arrival when the angry youth stormed the palace.

The chief refused to release the suspect and they vandalized property running into millions of Ghana cedis at the palace.

When the police officers arrived at the scene, the youth reportedly attack them forcing the police to fire warning shots.

Adom News’ Akwasi Dwamena reported that, two people hit by the bullet died on the spot and several others were injured.

He said the police managed to whisk the suspect away from the scene which angered the youth.

“They vandalized police vehicle and set three police motorbikes ablaze” Kwasi Dwamena noted.

He said there is tension in the town and majority of the youth have fled for fear of reprisal attacks.

Meanwhile, over 30 suspects have been arrested by the police.
