The Commercial Transport Operators have cancelled their planned strike action on the Pokuase–Nsawam Road, which was scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The decision follows assurances from the government officials and the contractor executing the project, after engagements with the operators on concerns about delays and progress of work.
In a statement signed by Samuel Amoah, Deputy National PRO of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU), the operators expressed satisfaction with steps being taken to address their concerns.
“We appreciate the efforts of the government and the contractor in meeting our demands and ensuring that the road construction project is progressing as planned.
We acknowledge their commitment to completing the project and improving the road infrastructure in our country,” the statement read.
The transport operators said their decision to call off the strike was based on the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project, but urged continued diligence to make the road safe and accessible for all users.
The strike threat had sparked concerns among commuters and businesses that rely heavily on the busy stretch linking Accra to the Eastern Region.
With the strike now cancelled, transport services are expected to continue uninterrupted as construction on the road progresses.
