Thomas Ayertey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he described as a poor turnout at the party’s recent delegate election.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN show hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Ayertey said the low turnout was an indication that the NPP was becoming disorganized and struggling to regain the confidence of Ghanaians.
He also accused Nana Akomea of wasting the GH¢400 reportedly shared among about 7,000 plus people, arguing that such actions would not win public sympathy for the NPP or help the party return to power.
Mr. Ayertey further argued that the NPP would struggle to regain power if it failed to deal with the influence of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He alleged that the former president’s governance record and continued involvement in the party were contributing to divisions within the NPP.
He added that the NPP currently had little to offer Ghanaians and urged the party to put effective strategies in place if it wanted to improve its chances of returning to government. According to him, the party must first unite and address what he described as the “bruhaha” within its ranks.
Mr. Ayertey also questioned the leadership capabilities of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that he does not believe Dr. Bawumia is ready to become president. He cited his communication and manner of speaking as examples and called on the NPP to consider bringing forward more vibrant personalities to lead the party.
