A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayensuano Constituency, Thomas Aryetey, has expressed concern over the deplorable state of roads in several communities across the constituency, describing the situation as a major challenge affecting the livelihoods of residents.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s EBAANOSEN Show with Ohene Kennah, Mr. Aryetey cited areas such as New Town Junction and other communities where roads remain in poor condition, making transportation and daily economic activities difficult.
He also identified illegal mining (galamsey) as one of Ghana’s most pressing national challenges, warning that the menace continues to destroy water bodies and degrade the environment.
Mr. Aryetey stressed that the fight against galamsey requires a collective national effort. He urged citizens to speak out against illegal mining and encouraged the government to intensify measures aimed at tackling the problem.
According to him, while mining is an important economic activity, it must be carried out responsibly and in strict compliance with the country’s mining laws and regulations. He noted that irresponsible mining practices continue to have devastating consequences for water bodies, farmlands, and the environment.
Mr. Aryetey further observed that successive governments have introduced measures to combat galamsey. However, he lamented that despite these efforts, some individuals continue to engage in illegal mining, disregarding regulations intended to protect Ghana’s natural resources.
