There’s no such thing as hunger in Ghana – NPP’s Nsafoah Poku

An aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has argued that no Ghanaian is truly hungry under the current economic dispensation of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government.

Speaking in an interview on Nhyira FM, Nsafoah explained that people’s complaints of being hungry are only a result of their taste for a higher standard of living.

“Let’s stop with the generalisation that Ghanaians are hungry. We have never been hungry. What is hunger? I know someone, my uncle, who had three shops in Accra. He got a new job and decided to hand over his shops to his bosom friend. The guy, when we were in Makola, was very calm. He would only buy something like roasted plantain to eat when a seller was passing by.

“After my uncle handed him the shops, his girlfriends became three. He was ordering Chinese takeaways for them while treating himself to fufu every morning and evening. He stopped buying roasted plantain. When we were young, we used to scrub our feet when we went to the bathroom, but today’s youth prefer to go for pedicures.

“Our mothers back in the day were not fixing their nails, but today every young woman is fixing long nails every other week. When we were young, we used to have natural hair, but children today laugh at natural hair. Everyone prefers long weaves which cost $1,500. Our lifestyle has changed,” he stated.

He cited the growing number of fast food joints as evidence of his claim of a taste for a higher standard of living among Ghanaians.

“Today, when you go to Tech (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology), look at the number of takeaway joints in Tech. Look at the number of Uber Foods that go into Tech. Our lifestyle has changed; that is why we are hungry. Because if you want to cook and not buy Uber Foods, if you want to cook and not buy Chickenman, if you want to cook and not go out and live a luxurious life, you will find food in Kumasi,” he stated.

As Ghanaians prepare to vote on December 7, pro-government supporters have been making a case for Dr. Bawumia’s candidature amidst criticism of economic hardship against the current government.

However, for Nsafoah Poku, the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government has performed well enough to earn the president the baton from his boss.
