The Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral area in the Tema Metropolis, Charles Amos has called on the Tema Metropolitan Assembly Mayor Hon. Yohane Armah Ashitey to revive the road safety regulation to clamp down long and heavy-duty vehicles parking illegally on the shoulders of the roads in Tema Metropolis, particularly in his electoral area.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Obidehye Kofi Sekyi, the Assemblyman raised concerns over how some long and heavy vehicles are parking in unauthorized places on the shoulders of the roads shortening the life span of the roads in the metropolis.
“Majority of the roads in Tema community one which was constructed not less than 3 years ago has deteriorated as if it was constructed 10 years ago due to this unlawful parking by the side of the road.”
He alleged that most of these vehicles are foreign vehicles mostly parked on the roads causing serious vehicular traffic in Tema Metropolis.
He continued that, if the Assembly revived the road safety regulation it would help generate revenue for the Assembly because every fined vehicle could generate at least Ghs1,000 for the Assembly.
“If ten vehicles are fined by the Assembly to pay Ghs1,000 every week, how much money will the Assembly get? He quizzes.
He also stressed that he has prioritized the sanitation issue in his electoral area and organized a clean-up exercise in site 16, Meridian, Tema sports stadium, and Abiola to clean gutters for a free flow of water whenever it rains to avoid flooding.
Assemblyman Charles Amos has also called on the Assembly to find ways to mitigate free-range animals especially cattle that have been causing vehicular traffic day and night before they create havoc.
Charles Amos then appealed to the Ghana Water Company Limited as a matter of urgency to inform the populace in his electoral area whenever they are cutting the supply of water to Tema Community 1 for them to store water because there is no source of water in the area when the water is not flowing as expected.
