The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced the conclusion of the Government’s World Cup group-stage ticket support scheme, confirming that no further government-funded ticket allocations will be made for Ghana’s remaining matches at the tournament.
In a statement dated June 29, 2026, the Ministry said the initiative was introduced to support Ghanaian fans in Canada, the United States and across the world by securing a limited number of tickets for the Black Stars’ three group-stage matches.
According to the Ministry, the tickets were not sold commercially but were distributed through Ghana’s diplomatic missions in Canada and the United States, recognised supporter groups, sponsors, stakeholders and diaspora community structures.
A total of 2,922 tickets were allocated under the scheme, including 948 for Ghana’s opening match against Panama, 1,000 for the clash with England and 974 for the fixture against Croatia.
The Ministry explained that the distribution process involved Ghana’s missions abroad, supporter groups, sponsors and stakeholders, with tickets issued electronically through FIFA’s mobile ticketing platform to approved recipients.
While acknowledging concerns from many supporters who were unable to obtain tickets, the Ministry said demand far exceeded the available allocation, reflecting the strong support for the Black Stars.
It added that the government’s ticket allocation covered only the group stage of the FIFA World Cup and confirmed that there will be no government-supported ticket arrangement for any subsequent stage of the competition.
Fans intending to attend Ghana’s future matches have therefore been advised to purchase tickets directly through FIFA’s official ticketing platform or other accredited and authorised ticketing agents.
The Ministry also disclosed that, in the interest of transparency and accountability, it will publish the list of individuals, groups and institutions that received tickets under the scheme once the appropriate publication format has been agreed.
The statement, signed by Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, expressed appreciation to Ghana’s diplomatic missions, recognised supporter groups and stakeholders for their role in coordinating the exercise and urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the Black Stars with unity, discipline and national pride.
