One Feared Dead, Driver In Critical Condition In Gomoa Dabenyin Accident

At least two people are feared dead following a tragic road accident near Abinkyi Market in Kumasi on Tuesday (19 November).

The incident, which occurred around midday, involved a VIP bus that reportedly suffered brake failure and collided with two taxis.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating. One witness told OTECNEWS  about the chaotic moments after the crash, detailing the impact and the scramble to assist the injured.

“I am a tricycle rider. After loading, I decided to head out to pump my tyre. While making a U-turn, I suddenly heard a loud bang. I quickly parked my tricycle and rushed to the scene, where I found that a VIP bus with faulty brakes had collided with two taxis. One of the taxis almost caught fire, so we had to disconnect the battery terminals to prevent an explosion. To rescue the victims, we had to cut open the taxis because the drivers were trapped inside”, the witness said.

“The information we received was that the VIP driver and one other person had died, although this is yet to be confirmed. The survivors, many of whom sustained injuries, were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment”, the witness added.

Authorities are yet to provide an official update on the casualties and the cause of the accident as investigations continue.
